The Bridge in Mostar

The brigde in Mostar, the third largest city in Bosnia and Herzegovina, was the most significant symbol for peace and coexistence. It was a symbol for the multi-cultural society the city represents. The very fabric of what will be needed in a future world. We need to be able to live together even thou our cultures and religion are different, There are no meaning in letting the differences create walls in the society.

The bridge in Mostar was blown up 9. November 1993, on the day exactly 4 years after the tearing down of the Berlin wall.

The lack of bridge created a wall between the two sides of the city, each with each own religion dominant.

We will refer to the dream of Mr. Enver Djuliman:

It seems that throughout history people have built bridges and others have tored them down. We should never give up the building of bridges. It is my hope that the bridge in Mostar can be rebuilt and by that tear down the wall that now separates the two parts of the town.

First Week Foundation supports this dream and will work to let Mr Enver Djuliman see his dream come true in the future.  Ideas and contributions are welcome.  And the progress of the project will be covered on our home page. So stay in touch with us  to see the exiting progress.
