In an effort to reflect the great diversity and depth of worldwide civil society, United Nations want to investigate how these might be represented for expressing their views to the UN. Since 1997 there has been several meetings and a planning of a conference and the "Millennium Forum"  was held in New York, May 22. - 26, 2000.

The Millennium Forum brought together civil society representatives from all over the world to consult about our future - the future of the peoples of the world - in relation to the great global challenges that must be confronted by the United Nations in the 21st Century.

The Millennium Forum assembled the innovative ideas and proposals of non-governmental organizations and civil society from all levels, to seek creating not only a new vision for the future but also an organizational structure whereby the peoples of the world can participate effectively in global decision-making.
